PCs, consoles

Hello,

Given Intel ownership, Larrabee graphics cards and say, this video, one would expect this game to be a PC exclusive.

However, Intel is not looking to cater to the PC gamer crowd with Larrabee. Intel wants to go the same route as the two other companies and sell out their base in favor of supplying the console manufacturers with a GPU design, making sure that development stagnates for the next ten years after that console release.

Gelsinger also affirmed that he'd love to see Larrabee in the next round of game consoles. But before I get into his response, I should give some background on why I asked this question.

I know from a source that Intel is actively pursuing the PlayStation 4 contract with Sony. But of course, this is so unsurprising as to not really need any sourcing. Intel has already gotten a taste of the console market with the Xbox, and now they've got a graphics product that will "shine" when you ditch standard graphics APIs and write code specifically for it. Obviously, Intel would love to score a major, high-profile design win in a commodity venue that would offer Larrabee a chance to let its unique capabilities stand out, but let me pass the mic back to Pat.

And our well-placed if publicity-shy sources claim Intel has offered Microsoft a very sweet deal indeed in exchange for pushing AMD out of the running for Mightysoft’s upcoming Xbox 720.

Offering everything from chips to chassis, Intel is purportedly wooing the Vole right down to designing its thermals and pimping the Larrabee chipset out to Microsoft to subcontract out as it pleases. Needless to say, this gives the Vole some rather hefty bargaining power, and leaves both AMD and Nvidia quivering in their boots.

Intel also appears to be heding its bets by wooing Sony by going after the Playstation 4, which won’t be out until at least 2011. The Xbox720 will be out in the market a fair while before that.

Does Intel want to see Larrabee used in the next generation of games consoles?
It’s definitely something we would want to discuss with the console vendors, and hope that the architecture that we’re providing is something that is very compelling for them and be interesting.

Is Project Offset a PC title or just Microsoft's next Halo?
